BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team fell 3-2 at home in a close matchup against the University of Texas at Dallas on Friday night.
Birmingham-Southern (1-3-0) equalized late but came up just short when UT-Dallas (3-0-0) scored the game-winner in the 85th minute.
The Comets' Stephanie White opened up the scoring in the game with a goal in the 14th minute, but it took less than two minutes for freshman forward Abby Walker (Hickory, N.C./Fred T. Foard HS) to tie it up 1-1. The goal was Walker's team-high third of the season.
Three minutes after Walker's equalizer, UT-Dallas retook the lead off a corner kick header that found the back of the net. The visitors would take the 2-1 lead into halftime and into the final 10 minutes of regulation.
Finally, in the 81st minute, junior Abby Kay Choate (Tifton, Ga./Tift County HS) found BSC's second goal to level it 2-2.
BSC's momentum would be short-lived, however, as UT-Dallas' Stephanie White fed Keely Fillman for the Comets' third goal which would prove to be the game-winner.
Junior goalkeeper Blakley Jones (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Holy Spirit Catholic HS) recorded six saves in the loss, dropping her record to 0-3-0 on the season.
Birmingham-Southern will travel to Huntingdon for its next match on Sunday, Sept. 8. Kickoff the game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
