
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team earned an 80-67 win over the Rhodes Lynx in its regular season home finale on Sunday.
The first half a battle, BSC took a slim one-point, 33-32 lead over the Lynx at the halftime break. The Panthers created separation in the second half, however, outshooting Rhodes 54 percent to 46 percent. With 13:21 left, BSC led Rhodes by its largest margin – 13 points – and maintained the advantage for the remainder of the game.
With the win, Birmingham-Southern improves to 8-16 overall and 4-9 in the Southern Athletic Association.
Junior forward Christian Stewart (Irondale, Ala./Shades Valley HS) led the Panthers in the win, scoring a game-high 26 points. It was the ninth 20-plus point game of the season for Stewart.
Three other Panthers also hit double-digit points. Junior guard Conor O'Sullivan (Tower Cork, Ireland/Cork Institute of Technology), who led the team with nine rebounds, had 14 points, while freshman forward Josh Childers (Madison, Ala./Westminster Christian Academy) came off the bench to score 13 points.
Senior guard Calvin Bak (Muscle Shoals, Ala./Muscle Shoals HS), who was honored pre-game in the Senior Day ceremony, scored 11 points. With one game left in the regular season, to date, Bak has scored 934 career points.
Birmingham-Southern will wrap up the regular season on the road on Saturday, February 15, when the team travels to Millsaps.
